What is stress really doing to our bodies and how can we manage it?

Stress is the worst thing. It can wreak havoc on our well-being and weaken our immune system. It's not a secret that stress is bad for our bodies.

Of course, we are 'programmed' to cope with stress, but many of us live with stresslevels that are too high every single day. And we are not programmed that good. But okay, how can we manage our stress? That starts with understanding the body's stress and immunity relationship.

The effects of stress makes you anxious and feeling anxious makes you feel stressed. Surprise. Most important right now is to know what stress does to the body and how CBD helps us to manage it.

Stress for the body.. what does it look like?

Stress is actually a response to help us escape predators but not necessarily to deal with a 24-hour stress cycle. When our body detects stress, the brain respons by stimulating the body to produce adrenaline and cortisol. This prepares our body to escape a threat -- real or not. It takes a lot of energy and you will experience alertness. This is known as the ''fight-or-flight'' response, and your body undergoes the same response to stress if it were running away from a tiger or scrolling through Instagram.

And what about anxiety, does our body react in a similar way?

Yes and they are actually also linked. Feeling anxious can trigger stress and stress can cause feeling anxious. However, the good news is that stress can shut itself off, but only if we limit the number of stressors in our lives. Most of the time we fail in this, which means that our stress systems won't brake automatically. This causes chronic stress most of the time.

How does our immune system cope with that much stress?

Sadly, our immune system is impacted bt stress. Other essential functions will be shut down by our body, when we are in ''fight-or-flight'' mode. This results in a weaker immune system during stress periods.

CBD will balance my body again, but how does that work exactly?

CBD normalize the activity across regions of the brain, including amygdala and hypothalamus, which are the most associated with anxiety and stress.

These effects are associated with CBD's ability to increase levels or serotonin and the endocannabinoid anandamide. This are two brain chemicals which are believed to improve mood and get a sense of calm.

Can the benefits of CBD help our ECS to restore balance?

The endocannabinoid system, in short ECS, is a network of chemicals and receptors that regulates many of our brain and body functions, including mood and stress levens and balancing our body. CBD acts in several ways. Now, there are only two known endocannabinoids, 2-AG and anandamide. These are highly involved to stress. When these levels are too low and so; out of balance, problems such as anxiety and stress occur.

CBD helps to fight the harm caused by stress. They fight back by activating serotonin receptors and increasing levels of anandamide (''the bliss chemical''). Together they make sure that fear and anxiety both are regulated.

Research has shown that low levels of anandamide have been associated with mood disorders, depression and anxiety. Boosting these levels can help to restore your anxiety and stress levels aka balance in your body!
